Southern Model Airshow 2013 – Update

After many months work, the committee of the Croydon Airport Model Flying club (CAMFC) are happy to announce that the New Southern Model Show 2013 will go ahead on the 14th and 15th of September 2013.

Since the loss of the 2012 Airshow, CAMFC have been examining all the options available for the 2013 show and into the future to enable the show to not just continue but to prosper and grow.

The Southern Model Airshow started on a school field running for one afternoon and has grown into the premier show in the South of England. While this has been brilliant for the modelling community (who have stood behind it from the very beginning) and for CAMFC, it has become just too big for a club of 80 members with a committee of 8 to manage. The cancelation of the 2012 show highlighted to us the need to get a more robust management structure behind the show and to secure a proper future for it.

With the above in mind CAMFC are happy to announce that with immediate effect, the show will now be run by Heritage Special Events Ltd (http://www.heritage-events.co.uk) in conjunction with the  WWII Headcorn Aerodrome, Near Maidstone  (http://www.headcornaerodrome.co.uk).

Heritage are a very experienced events management company organising  Last year “Folkestone Airshow”, ‘’ Leeds Castle Classical Concert Spectacular” and manage  all the flying displays  for  Chris Evans ‘’Carfest’’.  On top of this they already run ‘’Combined Ops’’ a large military vehicle & aircraft show at Headcorn Aerodrome  and have on staff several of the old Biggin Hill International  Air Fair team + they are all aviation nuts, a perfect fit for the SMS!

As part of the new structure, Headcorn Aerodrome will be turned over to the show exclusively for the weekend & The Headcorn Aviation Museum have already confirmed they will be open to the show visitors.

Not forgetting our non-flying friends, Heritage and Headcorn will also look to have a similar line-up of other interests and traders that made the Southern Model Show such an all-round show.

Over the last few years we have always encouraged feedback and encouraged the uploading of your own photos and videos. This for us is a natural extension of this and we look forward to seeing what you took and what you thought. while somethings are our of our control, we will read and try to respond to all sensible comments and suggestions and they will all go to the organisers, after all the Southern Model Airshow has always been a show for enthusiasts by enthusiasts..
